October 1, 2012

It seems strange for it to be October and the weather is getting warmer, not colder.  The seasons here are just opposite of home and take some getting used to.  Today is the Senior Couples get-together at our boarding.  Everyone is to arrive around 10 am except for the Richins who spent the night.

They are a great couple and it was nice to have some time to visit with just them.  The activities included whale watching, which the whales actually did show up for…not many and kind of in the distance, but they showed up never the less.

                                              A braii,

played games and just visiting.  It was nice to get to know everyone a little better.  We have a new couple who just arrived in the mission, Elder and Sister Sherbert.

They are from St. George, Utah and this is their 4th mission and will serve out of Port Elizabeth.  Elder and Sister Nye, who are from Oklahoma and serving in Grahamstown, couldn’t make it as they had a previous arrangement with the Elders to go to Addo Game Park. Elder and Sister Fowers from East London and he is a member of the mission presidency, Elder and Sister Stokoe from Port Elizabeth

Elder and Sister VanSickle, also Port Elizabeth.

We had a very nice time with perfect weather.   Most everyone left around 4pm, but the Fowers stayed a little longer and the Richins, Fowers and us played Rumicub and talked like old people do.

  1. Dear Stumms - It is simply wonderful reading your journal. I think you two are having the experience of your lives. While it is not, perhaps what you might have imagined when you signed up, I'm sure it is a fabulous experience.
This is faster than sending a letter so I am asking a question. We are having a Christmas party in the Ward. Is there anything you need in your mission area that we could arrange to send you? I was looking for a service project and this would be a great idea I think. It wouldn't get to you on time, but it hopefully could fill a need. Please write me at philhudson1@comcast.net Regards, Jan

  2. I don't know how I missed your journal earlier - oh, yes I do - but, anyway, nice to find it and you!
