July 22, 2013 “Don’t you have to be born into it?”

Being as it is p-day, we headed to Grahamstown to visit with the Chases and also visit a man Rick helped who was starting a nursery on a farm near Port Alfred.  His name is Shane and the farm thing didn’t work out, so he moved back to Grahamstown where he used to live.  Rick asked if he would like to hear more about the church and his first statement was “Don’t you have to be born into it?”  He thought it was like being a Jew and you were either born one or you were not.  Rick explained that the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints (Mormon’s) were a people who believed in and followed the teachings of Jesus Christ, that all who wished to take upon them the name and works of Christ could witness this by being baptized in His name by one who has His authority. We gave him a couple of pamphlets on The Restoration and The Plan of Salvation and a Book of Mormon.  He said he would read them, and I think he will.  We will send the missionaries if he wants to know more.
