July 6, 2013 Trip to the farm

This morning, early, we picked up Ntombiyakhe and her daughters to take the baby back to the doctor for a check on her rash.  It certainly looks a lot better.  The doctor gave her some more medicine as she now has a cough.  She was going to take her daughters to the family “farm” on Friday, but with the doctor visit, she was going to go today.  As with everything in South Africa, she didn’t know when the taxi would leave to go there since they never leave without a full load of people.  Everything here depends on the taxis and they seem to rule when and where they will go.  We decided to go ahead and take her and the girls to the “farm”, since we have been wondering what it was like, anyway.  It was only about 15K from Port Alfred, so not that far to go.  When we got there, we saw why Ntombiyakhe likes to go there, besides being with her family. The area was neat, clean and the people friendly.

We met her parents, which is amazing that both of them are still alive.  Usually it is just the mama who is alive, the father having died a long time before.

We met a couple of her sisters and a brother who was very friendly. She will leave the girls there for the week…they will certainly have a good time with their cousins who live there.  Ntombiyakhe will catch a taxi back to town either Sunday or Monday.
The rest of the day was spent on branch meetings and a seminary meeting with Elder and Sister Sherbert at our boarding. We always love visiting with them.  Our evening appointment cancelled, so we just stayed home and made some preps for Sunday…and baked brownies for the elders!
Another wonderful day in South Africa.
